Amazon: A Culture of Growth and Innovation.
If you're not growing and changing, you're standing still. And if you're standing still (or managing by inches and margins), and customers are moving forward with technology and experiences, you are going backward.
It's that simple.
I facilitate one- or two-day workshops to help companies change their culture and organization to be focused on growth and experiences.
Innovation is ingrained into every action and every day at Amazon. Amazon prides itself on hiring builders. And every Amazonian is there because of their desire to create on behalf of their customers.
Your Business
Imagine if your business, or even a small business unit, tested thinking differently. You turned your attention away from building a product or service and selling to a customer - instead, you uncovered what customers want and created an experience around them.
It's a complete flip of an operating model.
By fostering a culture of innovation among every one of the 1,000,000, innovation at Amazon doesn't take place during a moment in time — like a hackathon — it takes place as part of everyday work.
In fact, the 14 guiding Leadership Principles help Amazonians innovating for customers.
Six things that make Amazon work and grow.
Empowering innovators from every level and every team
Thinking long term and embracing failure
Making decisions based on "one-way doors" and "two-way doors"
Supporting internal mobility
Fostering creativity
Cultivating the next generation of innovators
The Workshop
The purpose of the What I Learned at Amazon workshops is to pass on my learnings and shed light on unexpected things I discovered at Amazon. Importantly, everything I took away from the scaling giant significantly impacts how I run and train companies today.
Often a part of a larger initiative (i.e., Quarterly Planning), the day is run like a typical Amazon offsite. Frugal, lean, and to-the-point. While we will cover Leadership Principles, 6-page documents, PRFAQs, span-of-control, two-pizza teams, frugality, document review meetings, and more, considerable planning will occur on your business.
Be prepared to dive deep and walk away with action plans.
